Ultimate Recipe Showdown news

Whoops, been awhile since I updated on our contest!

Weeks 2 and 3 brought us some fabulous and creative LOs; voting is torture!

We are now in our final week of competition and have singled out our 3 finalists.  The week 4 recipe has been posted and, if i do say so myself, it’s a doozy!  I have complete faith that our finalists will come up with amazing taste treats for our eyes to feast on….and voting will again be a major task!

Please come check out the contest on the boards and don’t forget to vote for our winner!  The Ultimate Recipe Showdown gallery is already chock-full of goodness and by Saturday, the final 3 entries will be posted.

Ultimate Recipe Showdown updates

What a fabulously talented group of scrappers we have here at the Shanty!!  I know I had a devil of a time choosing my vote for the first week’s recipe!

We had a total of 14 participants (and I am sooo stoked to see so many members taking the plunge!) and that group has now been whittled down to 10.

The week 2:  appetizer recipe is now posted and I can’t wait to see the 10 different takes on it!  Just for fun, try out a recipe yourself and leave a comment here with a link to your LO.  Or better yet, come join our little family and post in our gallery :)

And we’re off!

The first recipe for the Ultimate Recipe Showdown has been posted!  Come check it out:  Week 1 recipe

If you are interested in signing up for this contest, you still have time to do so!  I will be taking sign-ups until midnight CST on Sunday, July 6.  Remember, you need to have 25 posts to participate, so come and chat with us or be inspired by our fabulous gallery (gallery comments count towards your post total)!  Here is the official signup thread:  Ultimate Recipe Showdown signup thread

Since July started on a Tuesday, thus making our week short, and because the holiday is in there too, our first round will only be a practice round.  We will not be voting. You will not be penalized for not doing the challenge, but I encourage you to try it. I want you to get used to using a recipe, and also to scrapping with a deadline.

Your practice round recipe:

  1. Use something red, white or blue (or any combo)
  2. Use at least 2 different types of embellishments

There you go, easy as all-American apple pie!  Hope to see you there!!

Ultimate Recipe Showdown at the Shanty

Ultimate Recipe Showdown contest!

Come find out what we have cooking for the month of July!

We’re not talking Betty Crocker here–we want to put your culinary skills to the test, using your kitchen (scrap space), cookware (tools) and ingredients (scrap supplies).   We’ll provide the recipes, but you’ll need to add the final garnish–your creativity!

The contest will run the entire month of July 2008.  The winner will receive an online gift certificate in the amount of $25.00 USD (online vendor TBA).

Beginning Tuesday, July 1, each week participants will be given a “recipe” to follow (a list of scrap supplies to use on one layout).   How well you follow that recipe, as well as your skill at combining the ingredients,  will be determined by a weekly vote, with only the top chefs moving on to the next round.

The requirements are pretty simple:  you need to be registered for our message board and have at least 25 posts.  To register, simply go to www.scrapshanty.com and click on “message board” for info.

Paper, digital and hybrid scrappers welcome!!

Please note that this contest does not involve actual food preparation, nor will you be making a book of recipes.

We hope you’ll come join us for a month of fun and to find out if you can stand the heat–or if you need to get out of the kitchen!

Do What You Don’t Do

Hi Shanty and friends!!! Welcome to another wonderful blog challenge day!

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about comfort zones not only in scrapbooking but in life itself. It is only human nature to lean towards the familiar and stay clear from the unknown. Well, applying this thought to my scrapbooking I decided to list at the least 5 things that I normally don’t do when it comes to my work.

1. I don’t DO simple pages

2. I don’t DO paper peicings

3. I don’t DO centered photos

4. I don’t DO computer journalings

5. I don’t DO double pages

Now looking at this list I realized that inspiration and growth was right in front of me so I snatched one of these DON’T DOs and DID it!

This is a simple page that I completed and let me tell you it was a challenge for me not to load this page with my normal goodies. I kept it clean, simple, and pretty!

Here is the fun part for all of you! My challenge to you is to go make that list of 5 things that you don’t do and from out that 5 choose one. Play around with it, have fun with it, and you will be amazed what you can do when YOU do what you don’t do!

Till next time!
