July’s 1st Sketch Challenge

Say welcome to the 4th of July with a great sketch by Anne (StormRose).  It was pointed out how this sketch kind of looks like a flag so it would be great for those 4th of July pictures that you took over the weekend.

Sketch by Anne (StormRose)

Use this sketch anyway you want to inspire you to do a layout or card and then post it in the gallery and link it back to this thread so we can all give it the praise it deserves!!

Ultimate Recipe Showdown news

If you are interested in signing up for this contest, you still have time to do so!  I will be taking sign-ups until midnight CST on Sunday, July 6.  Remember, you need to have 25 posts to participate, so come and chat with us or be inspired by our fabulous gallery (gallery comments count towards your post total)!  Here is the official signup thread:  Ultimate Recipe Showdown signup thread

Since July started on a Tuesday, thus making our week short, and because the holiday is in there too, our first round will only be a practice round.  We will not be voting. You will not be penalized for not doing the challenge, but I encourage you to try it. I want you to get used to using a recipe, and also to scrapping with a deadline.

Your practice round recipe:

  1. Use something red, white or blue (or any combo)
  2. Use at least 2 different types of embellishments

There you go, easy as all-American apple pie!  Hope to see you there!!

Ultimate Recipe Showdown at the Shanty

Ultimate Recipe Showdown contest!

Come find out what we have cooking for the month of July!

We’re not talking Betty Crocker here–we want to put your culinary skills to the test, using your kitchen (scrap space), cookware (tools) and ingredients (scrap supplies).   We’ll provide the recipes, but you’ll need to add the final garnish–your creativity!

The contest will run the entire month of July 2008.  The winner will receive an online gift certificate in the amount of $25.00 USD (online vendor TBA).

Beginning Tuesday, July 1, each week participants will be given a “recipe” to follow (a list of scrap supplies to use on one layout).   How well you follow that recipe, as well as your skill at combining the ingredients,  will be determined by a weekly vote, with only the top chefs moving on to the next round.

The requirements are pretty simple:  you need to be registered for our message board and have at least 25 posts.  To register, simply go to www.scrapshanty.com and click on “message board” for info.

Paper, digital and hybrid scrappers welcome!!

Please note that this contest does not involve actual food preparation, nor will you be making a book of recipes.

We hope you’ll come join us for a month of fun and to find out if you can stand the heat–or if you need to get out of the kitchen!

Scraplift Conversion & Template #11

Well, I have something different for this week’s Scraplift Conversion challenge… and I hope you like it! This week’s layout is one that was created by me!

QueenScraps Challenge

Laura from www.queenscraps.com has been challenging us all month with various things. This week she has a very special challenge that I had to share with the world!

She posted this today at the Shanty…

I received a PM on another board that I visit about fellow poster whose one year anniversay coming up of her daughter and grand-daughters death in a car accident. The PM asked if we could send her cards and well wishes as she deals with this difficult time in her life. So that got me thinking about my own difficult times and how I remember them. I don’t have a single thing memorializing a sad or traumatic time in my life. I tend to focus on the happier times (which I’m sure most of us do).

So my challenge this week is to pick something in your own life that has happened that you wouldn’t normally scrap about. You do not have to post these layouts since they are going to be especially personal - but of course I would love to see what you come up with.

I did a layout about my divorce last year and how the change has affected me. I did this for my youngest daughters album since it was her father and I. I plan to do something similar for my older two children about the split up with me and their father. It felt good to get my thoughts out of my head and onto paper.

Post here when you’re finished and I’ll put your name into the drawing!

So be sure to get your layout done and post that you have it complete, share if you wish, but definately tell the stories of the hard times in your life too!

June Quote Challenge

Since Becky our quote challenge guru has stepped down from our dt (we really miss you Becky) I will take over doing the quote challenge every month!

Love is in the air…We all know that June reminds us of weddings and weddings of course remind us of Love. Everyone it seems I know has gotten married in June! Not me mind you but I can see why. So here is my quote for the month of June!

Hope to see some fabulous layouts using it!!!!

Love at first sight is easy to understand; it’s when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle. ~Amy Bloom

Now create that layout, login to the shanty and share it with us! Show us your STUFF!!!!

Scraplift Conversion & Template #10

Hello again! It’s time for another Scraplift Conversion challenge! And this week I have something special for you!

This week’s layout was created by jc.chris, who’s a member of my Creative Team. She normally makes digital layouts, but lately she’s been playing around with paper, thanks to the Shanty’s influence. So this week, we are going to take one of her paper layouts and turn it into a digital creation! Here is our inspiration:

He Loves Me

And here is our template so that we can turn this layout into a digital creation:

When you’ve scrapped your own take on this week’s layout, be sure to come back and show us your pretty layouts in this thread here: Scraplift Conversion - June 13th. Can’t wait to see what you make!

Happy scrapping!
