Hope to see you there!

Ultimate Recipe Showdown at the Shanty

Ultimate Recipe Showdown contest!

Come find out what we have cooking for the month of July!

We’re not talking Betty Crocker here–we want to put your culinary skills to the test, using your kitchen (scrap space), cookware (tools) and ingredients (scrap supplies).   We’ll provide the recipes, but you’ll need to add the final garnish–your creativity!

The contest will run the entire month of July 2008.  The winner will receive an online gift certificate in the amount of $25.00 USD (online vendor TBA).

Beginning Tuesday, July 1, each week participants will be given a “recipe” to follow (a list of scrap supplies to use on one layout).   How well you follow that recipe, as well as your skill at combining the ingredients,  will be determined by a weekly vote, with only the top chefs moving on to the next round.

The requirements are pretty simple:  you need to be registered for our message board and have at least 25 posts.  To register, simply go to www.scrapshanty.com and click on “message board” for info.

Paper, digital and hybrid scrappers welcome!!

Please note that this contest does not involve actual food preparation, nor will you be making a book of recipes.

We hope you’ll come join us for a month of fun and to find out if you can stand the heat–or if you need to get out of the kitchen!

Getting Sketchy!!!

Hi there fellow scrappers!!! Here at the Scrap Shanty we started a new schedule and with a new schedule comes a bit of a change for our challenges! We will be having two sketch challenges per month, bi-weekly, to keep those creative juices flowing.

For this week here is a little special sketch from our lovely Brook!!!

Here is my go at!

Everything that I am into was in this sketch. The little tidbits, swirlies, small photo, and a good balance of wthite space. I NEVER thought that I would get into white space! Who knew! LOL!!!

Have fun and remember to stop by the Shanty and share your AWESOME creations!!!

So You Think You Can Scrap?!

Have you been playing along with us? We are in week three of SYTYCS and Christi our game hostess is giving away a RAK for one lucky person thats participating!

Week three challenge is…

Because June is known for being a month when a lot of weddings are held, this week’s challenge is called “Goin’ to the Chapel!”

You must use:

Something old
Something new
Something borrowed*
Something blue

*you must borrow something from your partner. This could be a title, LO idea, LO design, color scheme, a tool/product if you live close enough IRL or even a photo if your partner would like to email you one.

The choice is up to you, but when you email your entry to me, please let me know what it is that you have borrowed, as well as the old, new and blue items.

Do your best to participate and get your name in the drawing for the RAK!

QueenScraps Challenge

Laura from www.queenscraps.com has been challenging us all month with various things. This week she has a very special challenge that I had to share with the world!

She posted this today at the Shanty…

I received a PM on another board that I visit about fellow poster whose one year anniversay coming up of her daughter and grand-daughters death in a car accident. The PM asked if we could send her cards and well wishes as she deals with this difficult time in her life. So that got me thinking about my own difficult times and how I remember them. I don’t have a single thing memorializing a sad or traumatic time in my life. I tend to focus on the happier times (which I’m sure most of us do).

So my challenge this week is to pick something in your own life that has happened that you wouldn’t normally scrap about. You do not have to post these layouts since they are going to be especially personal - but of course I would love to see what you come up with.

I did a layout about my divorce last year and how the change has affected me. I did this for my youngest daughters album since it was her father and I. I plan to do something similar for my older two children about the split up with me and their father. It felt good to get my thoughts out of my head and onto paper.

Post here when you’re finished and I’ll put your name into the drawing!

So be sure to get your layout done and post that you have it complete, share if you wish, but definately tell the stories of the hard times in your life too!

June Quote Challenge

Since Becky our quote challenge guru has stepped down from our dt (we really miss you Becky) I will take over doing the quote challenge every month!

Love is in the air…We all know that June reminds us of weddings and weddings of course remind us of Love. Everyone it seems I know has gotten married in June! Not me mind you but I can see why. So here is my quote for the month of June!

Hope to see some fabulous layouts using it!!!!

Love at first sight is easy to understand; it’s when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle. ~Amy Bloom

Now create that layout, login to the shanty and share it with us! Show us your STUFF!!!!

Scraplift Conversion & Template #10

Hello again! It’s time for another Scraplift Conversion challenge! And this week I have something special for you!

This week’s layout was created by jc.chris, who’s a member of my Creative Team. She normally makes digital layouts, but lately she’s been playing around with paper, thanks to the Shanty’s influence. So this week, we are going to take one of her paper layouts and turn it into a digital creation! Here is our inspiration:

He Loves Me

And here is our template so that we can turn this layout into a digital creation:

June Ad Challenge #1

OK - here is your first Ad Challenge for June! (This challenge will be alternating with the Sketch challenge each Friday).

Please feel free to get your inspiration however you choose. I treated this ad more as a sketch, but that doesn’t mean you have to. Perhaps the colors inspire you, or the type face used, or just the general arrangement of the elements. I can’t wait to see your creations.

So, without further ado, here is the ad:

And here is a template for digital scrappers to play along:
