Hang Your Shingle at the Shanty!

I am so excited to get the opportunity to post her3 on the Shanty blog. This is a great chance for me to share with you how I feel about being able to be a part of the Shanty.

I love this place. I believe that the Shanty represents what is wonderful in the scrapping world.

This is a place for scrappers of all kinds. Digi…paper, we love them all. We share the art that we love. All of us have different styles, but the joy for our craft is the same. We are bound together through our art.

We support each other not only to create, but we are here to support each other during the rough patches and rejoice in the triumphs.

When I started at the Shanty, I was new to digi scrapping and had never posted to a board before. Through their encouragement, I have been able to grow as an artist. By looking at their lay outs, I have been able to see new styles I want to try.

Here at the Scrap Shanty we are always looking for new friends. I hope that everyone feels welcomed here and will jump in feet first and have some fun!

Be Who You Are and Scrap How You Do!

Hi all! Welcome to another edition of the Scrap Shanty Blog!

I was thinking about what my blog topic should be and after several false starts, I said to myself, “Self, write about what you’re most passionate about concerning scrapping.” So here it is in a nutshell!

For years, my motto has been BE WHO YOU ARE and I have tried to live my life and raise my children accordingly. Now that I’m a scrapper, I have a new motto:

BE WHO YOU ARE AND SCRAP HOW YOU DO!

What’s all that mean? Well, to me it means (poor grammar aside) exactly what it says–scrap the way you scrap.

Scrap the way YOU want to scrap, not the way some magazine says you should, or the way a consultant for a direct sales company says you should, or the was some celebrity says you should.

I, myself, am a very simple scrapper. As much as I love scrapping, I don’t take it too seriously…I am famous for my crooked handwriting, and I’m cool with that. One of my good friends, an all-around wonderful artist, photographer and scrapper (and winner of CK magazine’s Hall of Fame a few years ago) told me she channels me when she gets uptight about her scrapping. She tells herself it’s okay to not be perfect. I’m glad that I can inspire her in some small way, and I hope I can inspire you a bit too by asking you to think about how and why you scrap…and by letting you know it’s ok to be you.

Do you scrap to document your childrens’ lives for them? Do it!

Do you scrap because you like to play with pretty paper? Do it!

Do you scrap because you want to do something different with your photos than keeping them in boxes or displaying them in traditional photo albums? Do it!

Do you like to use flowers, ribbons and pink on your boy pages? Do it!

Do you like to use 1 photo or 12 photos or no photos on your pages? Do it!

Don’t worry what anyone else thinks about YOUR scrapping–we at the Shanty are proud to support all styles and forms of scrapping, and we hope you will too.

So in closing, I hope everyone will embrace your inner artist! Be who you are and scrap how you do!

And by golly, post your creations in the gallery so we can all be inspired by you!

Have a scrappy day!
Stacy
